I did save 3 dollars today though when I went to my lovely Crest! Woo-flippin-hoo! Somethings gotta give here!

I’m still working on not using the hot water in the shower as much, unplugging things are going  well, not rewashing or drying clothes now…. so we’re headed somewhere. I still haven’t made my way back to the dollar general though.

I need more tips people!

1) The most amazing produce section I’ve ever seen. There are more colors than a crayola box! Not to mention all kinds of things that have never landed in my mouth. Time to explore, yes?

2) An actual butcher. With butcher paper, and twine, and well….a butcher! I love the freshness and the creativity that comes from it all!

3) Soooo many amazing aisles of goodies that I get annoyed at my husband because he walks too fast and doesn’t let me take my time.

4) Enough cashiers that you only, on average, have to wait behind MAYBE one other shopper. Opposed to that other store that we all love that has the lanes, just no cashiers!

5) They have grocery carts that carry both of my toddlers, instead of having to get 2 baskets or making Brooklyn walk. (that rarely works out)

6) Sani wipes to WIPE OFF the nasty little germs on that loved grocery cart left by all of your children.

And last but not least…

7) It’s only a mile away from my house! Woo hoo!

Does anyone else have this love for Crest, or is just me?

I feel that we have always been pretty smart in how we spend our money. We don’t have credit cards. Our house is not filled with extravagant things. We don’t blow money on frivolous activities. But still….

I know that Justin and have become lazy in the way of finances lately. And both of us are to blame for sure. So, with the economy having it’s little issue and the Edge household trying to build some savings, this is my pledge.

I pledge to: unplug things that are not being used (tv, blowdryer, electric razor, lamps, etc…)

 open curtains and turn off lights

 attempt to cut coupons again

 not take showers until the hot water runs out (this will be hard people!)

 when my clothes are done in the washer/dryer I will take them out instead of running them again because I forgot they were in there and now they SMELL

 use the Dollar General more (my mother does 95% of her grocery shopping here)

pay CLOSER attention to my shopping list

and last but not least, GO OUT TO EAT LESS OFTEN! ( I can’t really put a number on how many times right now, cause I’m not willing to commit to that just yet)

So, not only will we be saving some pennies but we might just be savin’ the environment a little while we do it. If only I could start recycling all those water bottles we toss

For the most part I am a very non-confrontational kind of person…actually, 99.5% of my life is spent trying to avoid confrontation at all costs. Ok, maybe not that much, but still.

I don’t know about you, but this whole debate thing is messing with my mind! 

I want to know what the candidates’ views are.

I want to hear their thoughts and opinions. 

I want to understand how they are going to fix our economy and health care.

 What I don’t want to hear are these back and forth digs at each other! They can barely even answer the questions in the time limit because their spending too much time talking about what the other candidate did wrong! Ahhhhhhhhhh! I can’t take it anymore!

Why can’t the answer just be simple….the answer, that’s all we want.

Holy discontent? Holllllllllly discontent? HolEY discontent? Hmmmmm…

Maybe this is a good description of my spiritual life right now.  Don’t get me wrong. I love my life, but I just feel there is something else…

Most of you know I’m a nurse. I love it. I know that it is something God has called me to do. I know it is a ministry in and of itself, but… there’s something else. Something else God wants me to do. What is it you ask.

I HAVE NO CLUE! There in lies the problem.

Since I was probably 14 I’ve always been in some sort of church ministry, and a lot of it!  For the first time in many years I’m not doing much of that. Yes, I do help in our discipleship program for the kids at our church, but I don’t know, I feel like I should be doing more.

Holy discontent, a good word for it. So, I guess it’s time to do some seeking. Oh and if anyone out there has a clue what this is about, help a sister out!

And I know, some of you are thinking….

Who cares? That’s not what its about anyways!

I CARE! I love to be able to give people gifts, I love to watch them open it, I love to watch them use/play with it, I JUST LOVE IT! And yes, I do realize that’s not what’s it about….but go with me on this, k?

Last year the hubby and I decided to start shopping early. WOW, did this make a huge difference?!? We were able to get all kinds of goodies for the fam without hurting  at the end of the year. We didn’t start way early, might I add…just in october or so, but it definitely helped.

Sooooooo, it’s christmas time people! If anyone wants to go shopping give me a call. Oh yea, and last year I ventured out the day after Thanksgiving with my mother….oh how much fun we had! Once again, I can hear you all yelling through the computer screen, CRAZY!

By the way, I LOVE CHRISTMAS! I love everything about it…. the little 8lb 6oz new born infant baaaaaby Jesus, the food, the singing, the lights, the children, the apple cider, the tree, the “togetherness”, the well…. I guess that’s about it. Can you tell I love it?!?

Anyone up for any shopping??????

Isn’t that awful?!? This is something that has haunted me since the day we became man and wife. Of course at that time we  we’re just living! There was no extra to save, believe me.

But NOW, what is our excuse? We have none. We are just procrastinators and in the worst way. I feel like God wants us to be good stewards of our money and we have not been the greatest. Now granted, we our blessed because we also have very little debt outside our home and a vehicle, but still. I know that God has blessed us financially in this past year or so and we just need to get on it!

In the past month or so we have been talking with an AMAZING financial planner. If anyone needs one, hit him up! He has really been working with us to help us figure everything out. There is just so much information it’s hard for the “non-finance knowledgeable people” like us to do on our own.

Justin and I have a good balance when it comes to spending. He wants it and I tell him no! No, seriously, we really discuss almost every purchase. We try to be smart and frugal for the most part. We tithe and give to the church regularly.  And I know  we shouldn’t rely on our own resources, but I know  that God is pushing us to plan for the future.

So, we are one step further…. we have a REAL savings account now! Woo Hoo, let me hear ya holla! Anyone else have this issue or is it just the Edge family? I’m sort of afraid to hear this response…

This is one area my hubby is pretty creative and amazing at. He loves to do, and I love to except it!

This week, almost everyday it’s been something for me.

Monday: The theme was doors of surprise. Behind several doors in our house he had a surprise for me. The first, shampoo I had forgotten at the store and instead bought 2 conditioners! That does not work, let me tell you. The second, he had moved the computer all by himself into our new office/spare bedroom. The third, well I can’t remember right now but there was one and it was good!

Tuesday: Fair day! Girls were on the news by the way… precious! No surprise that I can remember.

Wednesday: Doctor and airport day. Once again no surprise, but let’s move on shall we?

Thursday: House cleaned and girls ready for bed when I got home from work @ 7:30pm. That’s a feat in and of itself.

Friday: Lawn mowed, cement slab fixed, and new and extended flower bed in front of the house! Aaaaamazing I tell you!

Can you tell that it’s the little things I love the most?!? It doesn’t have to be big and fancy. (Although, I’m not gonna turn that down) I just love the little stuff. It makes me one happy mama!

Labor day weekend the family decided to take a trip on down to Hugo America. That’s where Justin grew up. If you don’t know anything about Hugo, let me elaborate. It’s a small town (very small) in SE Oklahoma. A big change for the city girl we all know I am. BUT, my in laws place is just a little oasis! They have a pool, garden, chickens, and last but not least peacocks.

The peacocks are fun. These are girl peacocks though so they don’t  have the grand feathers on their back. They have had peacocks as long as I have known them. Brooklyn has recently discovered that these gentle birds are about the same size she is, so she is no longer fond of them.

As we were leaving Edmond, Brooklyn looked up at me and said ” When we get to Hugo will you hold me so the peacocks won’t get me?”

To which I so lovingly replied “Brooklyn, the peacocks are not going to get you! Grow up you baby!” Ok, so I didn’t really say that last sentence. What kind of mother would I be????

All weekend I was trying to convince the little ones that the birds were not going to get us. ” Yesssss they are getting close, but you don’t have to be afraid.” I said with a little hesitation in my voice. You see, for all the years we’ve been around these birds, they’ve just kept to themselves.

EXCEPT THIS TIME!

They kept  lingering. Wandering over our direction.

One day as we were walking inside the peacock was a little too close for comfort. Brooklyn was walking right behind me. “Brooklyn you don’t have to cry, the peacock IS NOT going to get you.” The peacock began getting closer, and closer, and closer….

“AAHHHHHH!” I tried not to scream at the top of my lungs so not to give the children little heart attacks at their young ages, but oh my! That dern little peacock jumped up and bit my rear!

YOU HEARD ME! BIT MY REAR!

 I could not believe it….all these years and they turn on me! I’m not quite sure what the turning point was. All I know is that from now on, my children are allowed to run screaming from peacocks anytime they want! Because we all know mommy will be.

This bird fear goes much further, maybe I will elaborate another time
